PROJECT UPDATE: Week of February 5, 2018

CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS:

Work completed since last update:

  • Installed street light foundations and conduit on the south/mauka side of the Hina Lani Street intersection

  • Completed new HELCO, HTCOM, and Spectrum utility crossing at Kealakehe Parkway intersection

  • Completed backfill of street light conduit and foundations at Kealakehe Parkway intersection

  • Hammered and excavated HELCO and HTCO utility relocations and installations on the Mauka side of the Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historical Park entrance

  • Backfilled swales and median fine grading south of Hina Lani Street intersection

  • Re-constructed the Kealakehe Parkway Makai side intersection raising the grade and continuing the asphalt paving through the area

  • Completed grading and asphalt paving on the Makai side of the new concrete median barrier at the Hina Lani Street intersection

  • Completed temporary paving in preparation for traffic transition to Stage 4

  • Completed all striping required to transition traffic to Stage 4

  • Transitioned traffic to Stage 4 of construction staging – all Northbound and Southbound traffic on Makai lanes from Keahole Airport Road to Kealakehe Parkway

  • Relocated HELCO power pole at the Mauka side of the Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historical Park entrance

  • Installed gravity sewer and reclaimed waterline laterals between Honokohau Street and the future sewer pump station

  • Installed double sewer force main laterals between Honokohau Street and the future sewer pump station installed reclaimed waterline lateral across existing roadway north of Hina Lani Street intersection

  • Installed street light and traffic signal conduit packages at Hina Lani Street intersection

  • Removed portions of the existing roadway for roadway reconstruction throughout the project

  • Removed existing roadway shoulder for roadway realignment and the install of median swales and median barrier

  • Began milling of the existing roadway on the north end of the project

  • Began asphalt paving of the existing roadway on the north end of the project

Upcoming new work:

  • Install aggregate base course for shoulder pavement reconstruction from the Keahole Airport Road to Hulikoa

  • Install subgrade for concrete swales and median barrier in the median near Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historical Park entrance

  • Install waterline lateral (National Park STA 27+00) (Hina Lani STA 71+85)

  • Waterline Tie-Ins – Various Locations

  • Continue milling of the existing roadway on the north end of the project

  • Continue asphalt paving of the existing roadway on the north end of the project

Upcoming work affecting traffic:

  • Waterline Tie-Ins at Keahole Airport Road and Makako Bay Drive: work tentatively scheduled for mid to end of February

  • Trucks will be pulling in and out of median work zones near Hulikoa Street, Hina Lani Street and the Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historical Park entrance , please use caution when construction vehicles with flashing hazards and strobe lights are driving around in these areas.

 

Please continue to help us keep motorists, bikers, pedestrians, and our workers safe by respecting the posted work zone speed limits.  In addition, please remember that areas not open to traffic are active work areas. For your own safety, these areas are currently closed to the general public for all vehicular and pedestrian traffic including mopeds, walking, biking, and jogging.
