Thank you everyone for your support as we have hit a tremendous milestone for the project by transitioning traffic to the new makai lanes!  With the new traffic transition, we have experienced some initial traffic delays and confusion, but the traffic signals are continually being monitored and adjusted to ease the traffic flow on the highway.

There have also been some issues with motorists traveling northbound entering OTEC Road which is in its final condition as a right turn in and right turn out only road.

When traveling northbound to OTEC Road, 2 options maybe be available for entrance:

  1. The preferred option for motorists is to travel past OTEC, turn right to travel up Kaiminani Drive, turn left at Pukiawe Street, turn right on to Kupaloke Street, turn right on Laui Street, and turn right to return to Kaiminani Street  to exit on to Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway to enter OTEC Road heading southbound.

  2. An additional option for motorists is to travel past OTEC to Keahole Airport Road.  This remains an option via the car rental loop by turning right on Halau Street, left on Aulepe Street, left again on Paoo Street, and back on to Keahole Airport Road to exit on to Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway to enter OTEC Road heading southbound.

These options are TEMPORARY pending NELHA opening their road at the intersection of Queen Ka'ahumanu and Kaiminani Drive which is tentatively scheduled to open on Tuesday, September 5, 2017.

We apologize for any inconvenience and we thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to move forward on Queen Ka’ahumanu Widening Project.
